Master Degree Programs
All programs are accredited, comprise 3 semesters (90 ECTS credits), conclude with a master's thesis and usually entitle to a subsequent doctorate (in cooperation with a university). The Faculty EMI offers the following consecutive Master's programs:
Career Fields
Electrical and Information Technology
Electrical engineering and information technology is a key discipline in our highly industrialized and export-oriented economy. Graduates of our bachelor's degree program in electrical engineering and information technology or the subsequent master's degree program in IT and automation have access to promising fields of activity, for example in automation technology, information and communication technology, energy technology or electromobility. Individual preferences determine future employment in research and development or in project planning and production, in testing and quality assurance, in technical sales or in management. The master's degree opens up career prospects at management level and the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.
Educational Technology
Teaching and learning are increasingly characterized by the use of digital media. This degree program is aimed at prospective students who currently or in the future want to work in digital teaching, teaching development and consulting at home and abroad. The new central digital teaching/learning studio of the OTH Amberg-Weiden will also be connected to the study program and will offer lecturers and students the opportunity to develop teaching and teaching materials digitally. The spectrum ranges from interactive explanatory video production to video production with green screen for inverted classroom scenarios.
Geoinformatics and Land Management
Geoinformation plays a crucial role in most projects in business or politics. It forms the basis for the design of our cities and landscapes or the development of innovative technologies such as autonomous driving. Geoinformaticians create, collect, analyze and visualize this data. The Geoinformatics and Land Management degree program provides in-depth knowledge in all relevant disciplines: surveying/geodesy, geographic information systems, computer science, or natural sciences and engineering. In addition, students deal with land management, i.e. the sustainable development of rural and urban areas. For this purpose, regional planning or planning law are among the subjects on the curriculum. Classic employers are the public sector, the real estate industry or logistics companies. But the bachelor's degree also offers many career opportunities in the GIS (geographic information systems), IT or aerospace industries.
Industry 4.0 Informatics
Computer science and software are penetrating more and more areas of industry and technology, and the degree of integration of software and "physics" is constantly increasing. The Industrie 4.0 Informatics degree program prepares future computer scientists for precisely this situation. Graduates combine programming skills with solid engineering knowledge and modern IT methodology. They understand the language of their clients from the various engineering disciplines and, as IT architects, design clear software structures; as programmers, they implement these using modern software technology; as system integrators, they combine software and hardware to create robust overall systems. With these skills, they are in demand as specialists, for example, in industrial automation and the automotive industry, in production control and logistics, and in communications and Internet technology. In the master's program IT and Automation, particularly qualified graduates of Industry 4.0 informatics can further qualify for future management tasks or a subsequent doctorate.
Engineering Education
Germany needs teachers. There is an urgent need for teachers, especially at vocational schools. These are the best career opportunities for engineering educators. After completing the bachelor's degree program in engineering education with a vocational specialization in electrical engineering and information technology, graduates can take up the advanced master's degree program there for the teaching profession at vocational schools through collaborations with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the University of Bayreuth (UBT). Alternatively, they can enter the field of vocational education and training directly. Another advantage of the engineering pedagogy degree program is that the basic training in the technical field also makes a career in the engineering sector of companies possible.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence, or AI for short, has gradually become part of our everyday lives and is now indispensable: Intelligent traffic control, automatic parking aids or voice commands and voice assistants are just some of the applications made possible by AI. Thus, AI has also changed - from a subfield of computer science - to an independent field of teaching, research, and work. In the Bachelor's program "Artificial Intelligence", students learn what is important in the development of AI-supported applications and receive a multi-layered introduction to the topic of AI. The focus is on machine learning and AI-supported image, speech and sensor signal processing. Career opportunities are correspondingly diverse: AI specialists are in high demand both in science and in almost all (industrial) sectors. The consecutive master's program "Artificial Intelligence" offers students with a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering or natural sciences the opportunity to (further) deepen their knowledge. In addition to research and development work, graduates also have the opportunity to pursue an academic career, for example through a subsequent doctorate.
Media Information Technology
For a good decade now, digital media have been shaping our everyday lives, in information and communication, in education and entertainment, in the "virtual enrichment" of reality. Even classic media (magazine, radio, television) are now produced and distributed digitally. With this change, media informatics has emerged as a new branch of computer science. It focuses on the conception and realization of interactive and multimedia systems. Graduates of the Media Informatics program are specialized computer scientists for the production of digital media as well as the development of interactive computer applications. Their creative competence enables them to design and implement software for media technology products, devices and applications, and their IT competence enables them to contribute to the increasing integration of digital media. They are also in demand as specialists for human-computer interaction. Typical areas of application are the development of web and e-commerce applications, interactive computer graphics (e.g. in the games industry), innovative human-machine interfaces and mobile applications.
Media Technology and Media Production
More and more companies (especially medium-sized ones) need "media generalists" who are just as fit in the design of information and advertising material as they are in setting up and maintaining corporate websites, in technical editing as well as in the professional design of trade show booths, in the production of video clips as well as in internal and external corporate communications. The training of such generalists is the goal of our bachelor's degree program in Media Production and Media Technology as well as the consecutive master's degree program in Media Technology and Media Production. Both courses teach technical, information technology and design skills in equal measure. This broad basis creates a wide range of career opportunities: as a media "all-rounder" in medium-sized companies, in corporate communications and marketing, in agencies or as an independent web designer, in media houses or at private and public broadcasters. The master's degree also qualifies students for future management positions or a doctorate.
