Funding opportunities

International students can apply for a scholarship from numerous organisations, such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), party-affiliated foundations or business-related institutions.
Here you will find information on the various types of funding and suitable scholarship offers.

The Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation) awards annual full scholarships for study visits to Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, which are funded by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation.

The scholarship as part of the ‘Metropolises in Central, South-Eastern and Eastern Europe’ programme enables study or research stays in combination with language courses and internships. Funding is available for stays in the countries of Eastern, Central Eastern or South Eastern Europe or the post-Soviet region lasting at least seven months and a maximum of four semesters. Master's degree programmes are also supported, as are practical semesters and individual research stays. The scholarship is aimed at students of all subjects except art, design, music and film.

Scholarship holders of the Metropolitan Programme can receive funding for living expenses, tuition fees, language courses and travel costs. Admission to the programme also means admission to the Studienstiftung.

MEET UP! is a funding program run by the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, and Future (EVZ) under the cluster “Education Drives the Future”. In addition to boosting international youth exchange and training for specialists, it promotes youth engagement and the systematic participation of young people in decision-making processes.

From 2014 to 2020, it operated as MEET UP! German-Ukrainian Youth Encounters, and from 2021 to 2023 as MEET UP! Youth for Partnership, involving all countries of the Eastern Partnership. During that time, with support from the Federal Foreign Office, the EVZ Foundation funded more than 350 youth encounters, specialist exchange programs, and microprojects.
