Housing and Living

Housing

Anyone planning to study in Amberg or Weiden cannot avoid asking themselves other important questions. For example, about accommodation or what else you can experience in the university cities away from your studies.

Especially for international students, the topic of accommodation may be a difficult one at first.
Because... in other countries it may be common, but not in Germany - enrolment does not automatically mean a place in a hall of residence, for example. Accommodation during your studies must be organised independently in advance.

And what is the best way to find accommodation...?
To make the search for a flat or room at one of our campus locations easier, here are a few tips and information on finding accommodation.
Probably the most obvious one - there are student halls of residence run by the Studentenwerke at every university location for which you can apply.

Tips for finding accommodation

  • Start your search as early as possible. Accommodation offers are often published as early as three months before the move-in date.
  • Students often live in shared flats, or "WGs" for short. Shared flats are a good way to socialise with other students.
  • Search for accommodation both on online housing exchanges and on social media. Use hashtags such as "flats", "WG" or "WG-Zimmer" and the place where you will be studying.
  • Check whether your studies will take place on campus in Amberg or Weiden to adjust your accommodation search accordingly.
Apart from that - you can also search in the vicinity of Amberg or Weiden. Thanks to the good public transport network, you can also choose locations that are close by, such as Schwandorf, Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Neustadt ad Waldnaab or even Nuremberg or Regensburg. You can easily get to the university in Amberg or Weiden by train and/or bus.

Beware of scams when looking for a flat
Fraudsters repeatedly place fake adverts on property portals on the Internet and lure people with low rents in good locations in advertisements that appear to be legitimate. They pretend to be estate agents or landlords. Their scam is always the same: the new tenants are asked to pay the deposit or the first rent in advance. However, the flats do not exist or have already been let.

These clues can indicate property fraud

The classic core of a fraudulent property advert is often a very affordable flat in top, renovated condition in a sought-after location. A specific request for payment before the viewing is unusual. Reputable landlords and estate agents do not expect sensitive data to be handed over in advance. Personal data such as proof of income, Schufa self-disclosure or any guarantees are only handed over after they have met the prospective tenant in person during a viewing.
