Here you will learn to develop visual concepts for apps, websites and interactive experiences, to design intuitive interfaces and to reach and inspire people using media design, such as moving images, photography or graphic design. Using state-of-the-art technologies such as AI, AR and VR, you will create innovative digital products and strengthen brands through creative and effective communication. You will also be specifically prepared for the creative use of artificial intelligence. Topics such as generative AI and prompt engineering are important qualifications that will enable you to effectively operate semi-autonomous design tools. Practical projects with companies prepare you optimally for the world of work, while you develop your design skills in an inspiring community, mentored by experienced designers. If you want to play an active role in shaping the digital future, Digital Design is the course for you!

Career opportunities

The skills profiles of graduates of the “Digital Design” course are increasingly in demand in an increasingly digitalized economy. Companies, regardless of their size or industry, are recognizing the value of an outstanding user experience and compelling visual communication. Designers play a crucial role in optimizing products and services to meet the needs and expectations of users and communicate them consistently and effectively.

Depending on the profile, one of the possible professional fields of activity is the conception, design and implementation of media products and strategies, e.g. in communication, marketing and advertising, video production or graphic design. Another, partly overlapping area is the conception, design and implementation of interactive products and applications, e.g. in web/app development and the development of attractive user interfaces and products. These activities usually take place as responsible employees in corresponding company departments or development teams, as well as in the context of an independent, freelance service.

Graduates of the Digital Design degree program work in e.g:

  • Media and video production companies and publishers
  • Development and communications departments in industrial companies or SMEs
  • Marketing and advertising agencies
  • the games industry and start-ups

Application

Admission requirements

Would you like to apply for the Digital Design course?

To be admitted to the course, you need a general higher education entrance qualification, a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences. Admission is also possible via the vocational university entrance qualification.

You will also need to pass an aptitude test. The aptitude test is divided into two parts or stages:

  1. The pre-selection: For this purpose, students must submit their own work samples on a given topic, which enable the assessment of their artistic talent and aptitude (digital portfolio). Based on this, a decision will be made on admission to the practical examination with interview. The tasks and exact modalities for submitting the pre-selection will be announced on this page in good time before the respective application period.
  2. The practical examination with examination interview: The practical examination consists of practical/artistic examination tasks that test manual skills, idea generation and range of variation, concept development and the visual implementation of the tasks set. The approx. 15-minute examination interview consists of an individual discussion in which basic artistic/design knowledge, communication and argumentation skills and general interest are tested.

The aptitude test is passed if at least sufficient performance is achieved in the practical examination with examination interview.
