The English-language Technical Engineering degree programme offers you a wide range of fields of expertise with a focus on the classical engineering sciences. Furthermore, we also qualify you in the areas of business administration, intercultural skills and languages, which offers you excellent career opportunities in an international environment

The free combination of modules from different specialisations also allows you to set your own priorities in your studies, according to your interests. From the third semester onwards, you can choose from a wide range of possible subjects. You are not limited to the English-language modules offered in the degree programme, but also have the option of choosing German-language lectures from the range of courses offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Environmental Engineering.

A strong practical focus is very important to us. In many subjects, the lectures are complemented by various internships in our modern and well-equipped laboratories. The internship semester and the final thesis take place in the last semester, in which no lectures are scheduled. The long, continuous period that you spend in the company offers you optimal opportunities for a successful start to your career.

Our bachelor's programme is specifically aimed at foreign students with English language skills who wish to obtain an engineering degree from a German university.

Your degree in technical engineering offers you a wide range of opportunities in almost all areas of research, project planning, development, design, production, assembly and commissioning of machines and entire production plants in internationally operating companies. A leading role in production plants, for example in the automotive industry, is also possible. Potential fields of activity in the public sector complement the wide range of opportunities for graduates.

Starting your studies

In the English-language Bachelor's degree programme in Technical Engineering, it is possible to start your studies in the winter or summer semester.

Registration deadlines

You can register for the winter semester from 1 May to 15 July and for the summer semester from 15 November to 1 March by applying online. In exceptional cases, we extend the application deadlines for individual degree programmes. You can find out whether you can still apply for this degree programme by visiting the applicant portal.

Admission requirements

Do you want to apply for the Technical Engineering degree programme? To be admitted to OTH Amberg-Weiden, you need the general qualification for university entrance, the subject-specific qualification for university entrance or the qualification for admission to a university of applied sciences. In addition, admission via professional university access is possible.

Applicants from abroad must also provide proof of German language skills at A2 level and English language skills at B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. German students can provide proof by submitting their Abitur grades in the relevant subjects.

Applicants who completed their school education at a school abroad must have their certificates checked and approved by uni-assist. Please note that it can take up to 8 weeks to receive your VPD (preliminary documentation = necessary document for your application). After receiving or while waiting for your VPD, you can apply to the OTH Amberg-Weiden and upload your documents in Primuss.

 

Even if you already have a VPD from another university, you still have to apply for a VPD specifically for OTH Amberg-Weiden.

Do I need a visa if I want to study at OTH Amberg-Weiden?

If you are from a non-EU-member-state, you need to apply for a visa at the German embassy in your home country. Please note that it can take several months until you receive your visa. Make sure that you apply for a visa appointment as soon as possible.

Applicants with a school leaving certificate from a foreign school must have their certificates checked and approved by uni-assist.

All applicants must prove that they have an adequate knowledge of the German language at the beginning of their studies by providing a language certificate corresponding to level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proof is not required if the university entrance qualification or an already acquired university degree was obtained in German.

In addition, all applicants must prove that their English language skills are at B2 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, when they begin their studies
. This proof can be provided by German students through their A-level grades in English.

The examination board will decide whether your language skills and other qualifications are sufficient or whether you have to provide further proof. Language certificates and other necessary documents must be uploaded to the Primuss application system. Proof of German A2 must be provided before the start of the course.

Please always use the PRIMUSS application system and do not send your certificates in advance by email.

OTH Amberg-Weiden is introducing study service fees of EUR 500 per semester (plus semester contribution of EUR 72) from winter semester 24/25. This applies to persons with a nationality outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) who start their studies from the winter semester 2024/25.

You are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week.

Some accommodation is available only 5 minutes walking distance from the university. Please note that in Germany, accommodation in student halls of residence is not automatically granted upon admission to a degree program.
