Quality of Study and Teaching
Quality is a living thing. It must adapt to a constantly changing environment, away from routines and habits. OTH Amberg-Weiden therefore sees quality as a joint effort: it is shaped by people working together - teachers, students and staff. This requires a high level of mutual appreciation among all university members, a high level of trust in the quality thinking of each individual and a pragmatic approach to quality management that provides sufficient freedom for subject-specific characteristics. This goes hand in hand with decentralised responsibility for the core processes in teaching and learning, an atmosphere of mutual trust in the will to develop quality and an open culture of discussion and conflict. This value system was anchored early on in the university's mission statement.
In addition, OTH Amberg-Weiden has expressed its self-image of good teaching and learning in a further mission statement, the principles of teaching. Essentially, six fields of action characterise the high quality of teaching and learning at the university: professional qualification, the application of knowledge, personal development, the promotion of diversity, the strengthening of sustainability and orientation towards the future. At the heart of this is an outstanding academic education for students, which uses modern didactics to combine research and application-related knowledge with personal development elements and - in the spirit of lifelong learning - teaches transferability as a core competence.
Department of Quality Management & Accreditations
In order to ensure the quality of study and teaching, OTH Amberg-Weiden has established a quality management system that examines the degree programmes, framework conditions and processes at the university regularly and critically . The Quality Management & Accreditations Unit manages and supports the implementation and further development of this quality management system. In view of the university's system accreditation, it is also responsible for preparing the internal accreditation of degree programmes and supports the faculties in designing new degree programmes.
Quality Management System
The quality management system at OTH Amberg-Weiden ensures the quality of study and teaching, the quality of graduation and the quality of study conditions and all associated procedures and processes (see Process & Document Management) within the university. The monitoring approach chosen for this purpose relies on a set of quality-assuring, dialog-oriented instruments and procedures (see Evaluation) in order to take all areas of the quality cycle into account in the sense of the PDCA cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act). It enables the university to reflect on quality issues and provides impetus for quality improvement.
The quality management system at OTH Amberg-Weiden is based on a decentralized management approach. Overall responsibility for quality management lies with the university management, but the faculties have a strong role to play (subsidiarity principle). The Quality Management & Accreditation Unit accompanies and supports the implementation and further development of the quality management system and reports to the university management. The QM Commission supports the further development of the university-wide quality management system in the form of recommendations to the university management.
