Trip to TaiShan - Tai Mountain

Aussicht vom Gipfel des Berges

A three days trip to a stunning environment and entertaining stories.

Aussicht vom Gipfel des Berges

Some time ago, Jiangsu University(JU) organized a three days trip for around 70€ to the surroundings of Taishan and the mountain itself.

One the first day, we took the bus and traveled for around 4 hours. At that time, it was already rather late, so besides dinner and a walk at night through the streets, we went soon to bed to be properly rested for the upcoming day.

Early on the second day, we went to a traditional area which included ancient temple sites as well as an old town. Our teachers explained to those who were interested all the details about the history and/or traditions which are famous among that region.
Of course we ate a lot of local snacks and enjoyed the atmosphere. We even got the chance to use some bows and do some shots with them!
Since we were walking for the whole day, we should have went to bed early, but some came up with the idea of going clubbing and of course we did! Foreigners are quite welcome in all the bars, pubs or clubs I've been to so far. One reason might be that some Chinese are biased and of the opinion that foreigners always have a lot of money. And second, that it's good advertisement for the place itself, since foreigners show up and most of the people want to see the "Weiguoren"(Ausländer).

Having a strong lack of sleep and maybe still some leftover alcohol in our blood, we entered the next day accordingly energetic.
This time, we were about to climb the mountain TaiShan itself. It has a hight of around 3,500m above sea-level. After around one hour, the physical fittest made it already in a rush to the top. The view was very rewarding as you can see on the cover picture of this article.
On top of the mountain, there was an old temple where monks actually live and still keep traditions alive.
To keep the temple and surroundings in a proper state, the monks also sell some souvenirs and offer typical traditional services.
In the evening we went back to the university. Due to some traffic jam, it took 8hours, which we used to catch up with our strong lack of sleep and to recover from mountain climbing.

Want to go to our partner university in China or have any questions related to it?

Just send me an email to: mailtopaul@gmx.de I am officially entitled as a representative of our university. I can help you :)
